Temporary Prop Artist

Volition is looking for an energetic and passionate Temporary Prop Artist to help us build the world of our next, unannounced title. You will work with a tight, collaborative team of artists and designers to create environment assets that are both beautiful and fun to play with.

Responsibilities:

  • Author game ready assets that work well within given technical limitations
  • Create environment assets from initial roughs to completed polished assets
  • Responsible for creating collision, damage states, and other components related to props
  • Collaborate closely with World Builders, Level Designers, and Mission Designers to create assets that support the needs of those groups
  • Focus on the “big picture.” Understand when details matter, and when broad strokes are more important

Qualifications:

  • Self-driven and a great team player
  • Up to date on current asset creation workflows
  • Experience constructing and iterating on game props
  • Able to create both hard surface and organic assets
  • Strong understanding of form, shape, structure, and silhouette
  • Can create unique assets with unique unwraps and bakes, as well as assets utilizing texture atlases, trim sheets, and tiling textures
  • Comfortable creating assets with and without concepts
  • Fluent knowledge of at least one major 3d package (3dsmax preferred)
  • Strong texturing ability using with Substance Painter/Designer, and Photoshop
  • Proficient with ZBrush
  • Experience in at least one game engine (Unreal4, Unity, etc)

Pluses:

  • Strong foundation in the traditional arts, including but not limited to figure drawing, environmental development and/or architectural illustration
  • Speed Tree experience a plus
  • Environment Art experience a plus

Sample Work Required:

  • Portfolio should demonstrate ability to build a variety of assets
  • There should be examples of both hard surface and organic props
  • Work demonstrating high quality texturing
